Monopoly is a classic board game with two to eight players. It is a game of strategy and luck that involves buying, selling, and trading properties, building houses and hotels and collecting rent from other players.
Here is a brief overview of how to play Monopoly:
- Set up the game board and place all the game pieces in the designated spaces. Each player chooses a game piece (e.g., a car, a dog, etc.) and takes the corresponding amount of money: $1500 in $1, $5, $10, $20, and $50 denominations.
- Roll the dice to determine who goes first. The player with the highest roll goes first, and the play continues clockwise around the board.
- A player rolls the dice on each turn and moves their game piece to the corresponding number of spaces. If a player lands on an unowned property, they can buy it from the bank. If a player lands on a property already owned, they must pay rent to the owner.
- Players can also buy houses and hotels, which they can place on their properties to increase the rent other players must pay when they land on those spaces.
- If a player lands on a “Chance” or “Community Chest” area, they must draw a card and follow the instructions on the card. These cards can have various effects, such as forcing players to pay or receive money, moving to a different space on the board, or going to jail.
- If a player lands on the “Go to Jail” space, they must go directly to jail and miss their next turn. Players can also be sent to prison by drawing certain “Chance” or “Community Chest” cards.
- The game ends when one player has gone bankrupt or all other players have given up. The remaining player is the winner.
There are many variations of Monopoly, so it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the specific rules of the version you are playing.
